Content Standards Addressed in the Project
The state of California has adopted the National Common Core Standards. These core standards will be used in lieu of state content standards, aligning common core standards with lessons and activities. According to the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices & Council of Chief State School Officers, 2014, emphasis shall be placed on college and career readiness standards, specifically the ability to “integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., quantitative data, video, multimedia) in order to address a question or solve a problem.” Other standards addressed will include students being able to “determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context”, and in order to effectively demonstrate a command for the PBL exercise, students will be required to “cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of science and technical texts, attending to the precise details of explanations or descriptions.”
